Check your System.ini , Autoexec.bat and config.sys for
Possible Problems(an unsupported real mode driver for example).

Pif
That Pif solution worked half way. Now what happens is the sound config pops up...but the installation also runs. The system.ini, autoexec.bat, etc seem to be in order. Is there anything else you can think of? (thanks again..I at least can install things now )
