    Does your surname get misspelt?

By surname I mean last name/family name etc

    anyway, mine does

My surname is of course SREEVES
but a lot of people insist that it should be

    Shreeves
    Screeves
    Shcreeves
    Greeves

these are the most common ones, I've had worse....
My son received a parcel today and the name was Sceeles !!!!!!!

When people ask my name (eg in a bank last week) I get the reply
    "That's an unusual name"
I bet if I was chinese and my name was wing ching ping wong tong they wouldn't say that!

I actually know of TWO MORE Mark Sreeves so it's not that unusual.

Does anyone else have a simular problem?

    All the time,

    My surname is Isaak
    but I get it
    Isaac
    Issac
    Issak
    Issaac
    Issaak
    Isak
    Isac
    I've even gotten it Isic

Frustrating, now if I'm doing somethine where they are trying to write my last name I always spell it instead of just telling them what it is!

Oh yeah and there was one time when I got a letter addressed to Mr. Eyesack!

Yep, me too, mine is miss-spelt and miss-pronounced all the time.

    My surname is McCairns.
Trying to get anyone who is not from Scotland to pronounce that is hell.

Most commonly it is McCains. No, I am not an oven chip damn you, its not hard, Mc, then Cairns, its not hard.

The number of times I have had to spell it out for people is unbelievable, and even then, they have often still got it wrong.
Iain, thats with an i by the way!

yes, both names, i get jonathon frequently, which i hate, on the birth certificate, it mostdefinatly says JOHN Grrr, but i also get jon and jhon (who would spell it that way!?!)

but the best is my surname (it is a ***** to spell i know) it is Marlborough

    i get
    molebra
marlboro (do i look like a *** (don't answer that!!))
    malbro
    malboro
    marlbro
    harlsboro
    harlsborough

and when i say my surname i always get asked "is it spelt like the cigarettes, that pisses me off. it is pronounced differently, i usually pronounce it the proper way if the person loks like a tw*t. when i say it is spelt the same way as the town and they say "oh the posh way. BASTARDS
Now, aren't you sorry you didn't just keep on scrolling?

I think an interesting slant on this topic is what your surname originally meant.

Mine, Kilhams, is literally Kill hams (i.e. pigs). Which means somewhere down the line we were pig farmers.

    Anyone got any worse ones??

Yeah, I hate that too. People spell my name like this the most:

    Mathew Gates

And then I've had my name spelled like this:

    Matthews

And few other ways that I hate.

Why can't people spell it right?

    Matthew Gates

It is the traditional way of spelling Matthew.
It's not that hard. I'll even allow you to call me Matt. (Two t's as well there).

I am not a rug (Mat), so don't even go there .

copy and paste if you have trouble, I always do.
That's how I get Mark Sreeves (his name was not copied since I memorized it ) name spelled right.

But for everyone's name, I always copy and paste so I get it right. You are given a name, you use it all your life, you should at least get some respect with your name and people should spell it correctly.

Well my surname McCairns means Mc = son of, and Cairns is a pile of rocks.

I guess that makes me the son of a pile of rocks, weird.
