    start>shutdown problem

    When i click

    start>

    Shutdown

    The computers hour glass comes up and then the shutdown screen never comes up. so i half to push ctrl-alt-del and go to shutdown.

    What could be causing it.

    ive ran my anti virus Norton and NOD32 nothing eccept adware.mirar

    the os is Xp home Sp2

    there are a number of things that could cause it first off try running a online virus scan and make sure all your virus scans and such are updated then scan it , is this a network computer?

    no its not on a network They update every day. I have an AOL anitvirus scanner ive never used it.

    i dont know any online ones

    Instead of ctrl-alt-del shutdown the second time, try start->shutdown the second time. If that works, you may have a program that's hanging when it asked to unload.
    The most difficult part of developing a program is understanding the problem.
    The second most difficult part is deciding how you're going to solve the problem.
    Actually writing the program (translating your solution into some computer language) is the easiest part.

    you cant do anything but push ctrl-alt-del
