Resolved [RESOLVED] [SERIOUS] Time for a change.

    (From a USA Perspective)

It's time. I need to start looking for a new job. Anyone who's recently been employed or is currently looking as well; how's the market look?

It looks slow over here. I get email job listings and for the past 2 weeks there have been no new programming jobs posted. But for th ejobs that are out there I here the pay is looking up for degree holders.

Instead of making a new thread, I'll just complain here.

Every year, we have a mandatory annual safety training. It runs from 8am-5pm and it's always on a saturday. To make matters worse, it's ALWAYS scheduled on the weekend of my birthday. And to really drive the point home, I don't get paid for it either (salary).

    usual suspects:
    justvbjobs.com ... hotjobs.com ... dice.com ... monster.com ... then there's a local one careerlink.org, but I doubt you are looking to relocate.

those are the ones I putz around from time to time.

I've posted on dice and careerlink.org. So far so good. It hasn't even been 24 hours and I've already got 6 inquiries. Some are headhunters, but others seem to be from more established companies. The pressure seems to be for ASP.Net right now. That's been the big question, "how much ASP.Net experience do you have?" I preffer to mostly do winforms (UI layer doesn't really matter to me since I spend most of my time in the other tiers), but I'm hoping something will come around (*fingers crossed*).

I would like to put my two weeks in by the end of the week.

Re: [SERIOUS] Time for a change.

I'm getting calls at work (3 consulting companies so far), and I don't mean on my cell phone (the number I listed with my resume).

I was kind of hoping to exit quietly, but it looks like that's not going to happen.

Oh well, maybe it's for the better that they know people are after me?

Re: [SERIOUS] Time for a change.

I can't understand these people... I've had two companies call me and they had such heavy accents that I can't understand more then 1 out of 3 words. I'm trying not to be rude or offensive, but that last call; I literally had to use all of the following excuses as to why I couldn't understand him (in the span of a 3 minute conversation):

    1) "Hold on a second, the volume is low on my phone. Could you say that again?"
    2) "I'm sorry, I haven't had my coffee yet this morning. (*fake laugh*)"
    3) "We have really bad phone service up here."

Then the few times I thought I understood, I would say "Yes" and then repeat what I thought he said... Just to make sure.

I've been at this for a few days; spent hours and hours talking to headhunters....

I gotta say... For anyone who's contimplating VB vs C#; literally 90% of the jobs I've received are asking for C#.

Re: [SERIOUS] Time for a change.

    Wish me luck.

I have a pending offer with a company for a 6 month contract. First time doing contract work; so I'm a little excited. Today's the day I find out if they meet my rate or not. I'm already half packed and ready to move. Everything's going to a storage unit, and I hope I can find corporate/extended stay housing.

I'll post again when I get the call.

Re: [SERIOUS] Time for a change.

Wow... The consulting company screwed up big time. They had put my resume into their format, but forgot to clear everything off the old resume (copying and pasting). They submitted "my" resume to the company and it said that I had a PMP, graduated from some electrical college and am currently pursueing my masters degree.

Lets see how responsive they are when they find out I don't have any certs, I didn't go to college and the only masters I have is for Jin in Tekken Tag.

Phone interview at 1pm CST. From what the company told me, they're notorious for hiring on the spot (over the phone). I might be able to put my 2 weeks in today.

Fascintating thread, keep us posted. Of course, when you get right down to it, unlike a wossy DW thread, it would be better if this one ended soon.
