Cost of Visual Basic Enterprise
Hello,
I am new here and I wasn't sure if this was the correct forum to post in, but I was just wondering what a copy of Visual Basic Enterprise would cost and what stores I might be able to buy it at? I havn't been programming for a while and I want to start back up.
thanks

I agree with Si.
Don't invest your money and time on VB6.

Ok that's fine, but I don't know VB.net... is it similar to VB6?

Re: Cost of Visual Basic Enterprise
Sort of.. the main concepts are the same, but there are also lots of differences.
Many people work with both (for different projects) and dont seem to have a problem switching between them.
We have a busy VB.Net forum which has lots of useful info to help you learn - especially in the sticky threads at the top.

Before picking up VB.NET, see what people say : http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=389729
We have a C# section too.

Re: Cost of Visual Basic Enterprise
...VB.Net is to VB6 as VB1 is to GW-BASIC...
... if you HAVE to use .NET (and you really want to pause and think about this), you'd be better off learning the language it was actually designed for (and which most of the "help" examples on MSDN are written in): C#
...the resounding lack of "how to" books for VB.NET (as compared to any previous version of VB) attest to its utter lack of popularity, and thus (as per Microsoft's SOP) will likely disappear soon - just my humble opinion...
...Per Microsoft's website: Visual STudio 6 had almost 6.5 million licensed users, while VS.NET has less than half that many (and remember that VS.NET started out 5 whole years ago)...

Re: Cost of Visual Basic Enterprise
But VB 6 has started out about 9 years ago and if you count VB 1-5 then its allot longer. Plus, VB.NET didnt come out until 2002 so its only about 4 years old. Quite good for 4 years.

...sorry to disagree, RobDog888...
When you have 6.5 million users, and you offer them no other upgrade choice at all while basically saying "the technology you are using is pretty much obsolete" (the clear inference being that it is going to "go away" at some future point) and *even then* less than half your customer base decides to follow you...no, not pretty good. Pretty bad, actually - again, just my humble opinion.

Re: Cost of Visual Basic Enterprise
True, sigid. There are a few million people who will continue to use VB6 whether MS "supports" it or not, as long as it allows them to produce what they need to produce. It's not going away soon.
The most difficult part of developing a program is understanding the problem.
The second most difficult part is deciding how you're going to solve the problem.
Actually writing the program (translating your solution into some computer language) is the easiest part.
Please indent your code and use tags around it to make it easier to read.
