i am trying to make my computer boot up a little quicker so i am clearing things out of bootup, and there is this thing called cmmpu.exe and i don't know what it does and how it effect te computer, all i do know is that if i do ctrl+alt+del and end task it it says that it isn't responding and i have to kill it, so what should i do with it ?? please help
BTW this is my machine spec in case it helps
AMD K-6 500Mhz
96Mb RAM
8 GIG HDD
Windows ME
Visual studio 6 enterprise edition SP4

For Faster Booting...
Remove all Unwanted stuff in System.ini,Win.ini etc...
Remove Unwanted Programs in the Registry
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
etc...

An easier, more descriptive (and safer) method to remove things from startup - go to Start->Run and type "msconfig" then press <Enter>. If you click on the rightmost tab you can select what is run at startup.

That's what I always do....but...
When I install windows, I always have something called 'hidserv' in my task list..... well, last time I installed windows, when unticked it from the start up list in msconfig, it never ran again.... but this time, I unticked it from the start up list, and it's still in my task list when I press ctrl-alt-del....

Bizarre... I always keep my tasklist as empty as possible, when I don't have any apps open the only things on there are explorer, systray, my firewall (since I'm on cable) mdm (I usually kill this if I'm gonna play a game) and an intellimouse thing.
I don't trust stuff that I don't recognise to run in my tasklist.

Any way i can get rid of it? It does make programs crash and hang alot.
