SuSE Linux 7.1 Professional

I just installed SuSE Linux 7.1 Pro.. and after a few minutes of looking around, I found out that SuSE Linux supports PPPoE(what I use to connect to my aDSL):

does anybody know how to use and configure it?

I tried it earlier today; I plugged the ethernet cord into the NIC card, and I did some stuff(I configured the 'aDSL' option) and it still doesn't work..

I understand why it doesn't work. it only asked for my username and password, it didn't ask for anything else. I think you have to make those changes to the NIC card. But I don't know what to do.. Does anybody here know?

No idea...

But I just accidentaly formatted one of my Drive
and that's the one I installed Redhat Linux 7.0.
When I tried to Install Again...I cannot proceed
Because I get a Message saying My Partition is
Corrupt.

I have no Idea what I did 6 Months before.
But Now I badly Need Partition Magic.
(Version 4 Would be better b'cos of it's small size)

Any one have it ??

So...Here are two people waiting for Professional Help..

Is there a way that I can have windows and Linux on the same machine? because my famiily wouldn't be too happy if I got rid of windows.

What do you mean by that ?

Did you think..we would throw off windows when we Install Linux ?

Linux Has to be Installed in Separate Partitions.

Family is irrelevant

As Active says, you need separate partitions. I have them in this order:
Linux /boot
Windows
Linux /
Linux /usr/local
Linux swap

Linux comes with LILO (LInux LOader) that does this for you and allows you to boot multiple OSs, as well as multiple kernel versions.

errr dont start me going about LiLo. That piece of ********** rubbish corrupted my mbr and wiped out every partition on my PC except the linux ones. And i found SuSe linux had loads of other bugs too (6.4).

Windows is the PC os of the future, even if it does mean we have to give even more money to bill

How'd you do that? To restore the MBR type (in DOS):
fdisk /mbr

Well I'd just like to let everyone who bashes Linux that I'm running Windows 95 (Default Boot) and Mandrake Linux with LILO, I installed Linux for the first ever time two weeks ago, and it went perfectly! Not a single problem!!

Thanks parksie, someone else told me that, but unfortunatly, by then i had given up and started from scratch.

Maybe i was just unlucky when i tried linux, but NOTHING went right. On the box, it said you need a minumum of 140Mb, i freed up 2GB by resizing partitions and when i selected minimum install it said i didt have enought space for a minimum install. Then when it finally did install it couldt detect my graphics card so i couldt do anything anyway coz it was running in some horribly low res that ment i couldt get to the command buttons at the bottom of the programs!

Im sorry but if linux is supposedly so good, how can it have caused so many problems, when i followed the instructions to the letter!

I finally Managed to Install Linux atlast..
Played Mathematics with Partitions and had Success.
All without Partition Magic !!!

But I could not Get the Xserver to Run. Mine is
i810 chipset Board...and The Version I installed
yesterday (version 6.1 Redhat) doesn't have the
Drivers for it. I will Get The drivers by next week...
and have to recompile the Kernel (For the first time ever in my life !!)

So till then...It's all Console Mode I could Think of..

I didn't have any problems with partitions, because it was on my old PC and I just wiped out windows.

But, I have the same problem with the screen res..... 640x480 screen res with 16b color

Where did you guys get readhat 7 from. All links I try stall after 300 megs! Sucks.

Dennis Your problem with your resolution is related to your monitor. You have to set up refresh rates and crap like that before you can change.

I cannot Download 300 MB...

Luckily I Subscribe to a Magazine..
and They Give a Cover CDROM Each Month.

On One Such Cdrom Was this Linux..

Never heard of Readhat before!

How come they don't give you the latest versions then. Redhat 7 was released last year sometime.

Those Magazine folks were Waiting For the Release of
Kernel 2.4......So they Thought...they would delay...the
CDROM...So that they Can Send the Latest Version to
Their Subscribers. Since Kernel 2.4 is now released..
I can Expect it at any time Now..

But another magazine...Released Version 7.0 Redhat
LastYear ...My Friend has got that.
