I live near Ottawa, and all the accident I had was during winter! But shoveling is also a pain in the ***! We got about 3-4meters of snow every winter...and all the road are ugly because of the hot temperature in summer, and the cold one in winter....so....**** winter! And poor car...
We had a snow storm on Friday night, so we delayed our son's pictures until Saturday. Mike, my son, and I were on our way home from the photo studio where our son got his one year old pics taken. It was down-pouring rain for about 40 miles of the trip back. All the sudden the roads turned to ice, and the car decided that it wanted to see the ditch a little closer. The back driver's side wheel caught the snow on the edge of the interstate and the back end of the car flipped forward so that the car was on the roof, and then we rolled twice to the side. This all happened while we were going 60 mph. It seemed like my sense of sound was turned off, because I don't remember any noise through the whole accident. I can remember exactly what happened, because I kept my eyes open the entire time. I remember that all that was going through my mind is this "[My son] is in the back seat!". (Leaving my son's name out.) As soon as the car stopped, I crawled out my driver's side window onto snow. The car was upside down. I glanced at Mike, while I was diving into the rear driver's side window to find my son, to see that his eyes were open and he was blinking, so I knew he was alive. He said that he couldn't feel his back or his legs, but to get our son out first and then get him out. He was upside down, and buried in snow up to his mouth. I couldn't see my son anywhere. I frantically scratched at the snow that was packed in the car like a rock, and finally found my son's face. As soon as he saw me, he started screaming, so I knew he was alive. I smashed my hand though the snow by his feet to make sure they were still intact and his legs were not broken. I was so hysterical that I couldn't remember where the latch was to get him out of the carseat. By this time, there were people stopped who saw the accident happen. They pulled me out of the car and tried to get my son out of the carseat. They finally pulled him out of the car and handed him to me. Then, they dug out all the snow surrounding Mike and pulled him out of the car. Then a family drove us to the emergency room.
We don't even know who the person was who pulled our son and Mike out of the car was. We didn't get a name and number so we could thank him. We did get the name and number of the guy who drove us to the ER though.
When we got to the ER, they checked all of us out. Our son checked out perfect. He was trying to walk in the ER and the doctor said that was a very good sign. (He's just learning how to walk.) He only had a small scratch near his left eye from a piece of glass from a window. Mike only had a small scratch on his chest from the spoiler of the car. (Yes, the spoiler that is normally on the trunk ended up in Mike's lap.) They took me to x-ray to see if my right wrist and arm were broken, but it turned out OK. I hyperextended my wrist by hitting the stearing wheel and badly bruised the rest of my right arm.
Sorry if it took so long to get a response, but I can't type all that fast yet.
The cop called me after we got home from the hospital to get a record of the accident. He asked me how many people were in the car, and how many of us were hurt, and he was speachless when he found out it was only bruised and scrapes and a hyperextended wrist. He wasn't informed that we were already on the way to the ER, and when he pulled up to our car, he was for sure that he was going to be pulling dead bodies from the car. I think when he told me that, what really happened and how lucky we were really sank in.

yeah glad to hear that you and your family are alright, it sounded very nasty.
Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen a angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

About 15 minutes out of Brookings. Brookings is about 60 miles north of Sioux Falls. The accident happened 1 mile north of the Flandreau exit on the interstate between the two towns.
After something like that I'd probably be in a mental institution...I'm really bad at handling nasty situations...I revert to my "I'm a bastard and I'm going to look after myself whilst ignoring others"...
Seriously though...it's good that you're able to come on here and talk about it, apparently it's supposed to help.
