Develop apps for Win Mobile 5.0 AND CE 5.0

    Hi All,

First of all I wonder if someone can clarify the difference between windows Mobile 5.0 and windows CE 5.0 to me. Is mobile on top of CE or is CE running independent of mobile??

If I want to develop applications for these targets, how is it done? Is the tool VS 2005 for both of them and is it possible to create a project that can be compiled for these different targets or has there to be two different projects altogether?

    Thanks

The tool is VS 2005 for both, using the .NET Compact Framework. As for the difference, I can never keep them straight. I think one is for PDA style devices, and the other is for those mobile computers which have different screen formats, and different data entry options.

The two platforms can be used on the same type of device (not at same the time). The problem is that CE 5.0 is preffered in this project but we got a couple of old machines that cannot be upgraded to CE but to Mobile 2003.

Therefor I have to develop a new application that runs both on Windows mobile 2003 and on Windows CE 5.0.

The new devices we're looking at is not (yet) available with Mobile 5.0 only with CE 5.0..

CE 5.0 is Windows Mobile 5.0, just different termonology however it is officially known as WM5 (Windows Mobile 5)
you can install .NET CF 2.0 on WM5 devices, and on PPC WM2003 devices, but not on smartphones running WM2003.

.NET CF 1.0 SP3 is built in the ROM of all WM2003 and WM5 devices.

you obviously need the Smartphone or PPC WM2003 or WM5 SDK's from MSDN

MVP 2007-2010 any chance of a regain?
