starter motor cables
just took off my starter motor for a new one , new one i bolted in, and there are 3 cables to attach and two blots on the starter to attach them, well there a small cable which goes to one blot ad the battery live which goes to the other bolt, but i cant remember which bolt the alternator cable goes on, would it be the live?

There's only one way to find out: attach them to your nipples.

I have zero experience with cars.
It depends how the alternator is connected, does it have another line coming from it that is connected to the battery or perhaps the car frame(earth)?

See if you can find a wiring diagram for your car on the net. When all else fails you can go to your local auto store and buy the manual which should include the wiring diagram.

Or just ask them, I used to work in an auto parts store and we'd get people in all the time asking how to do one thing or another so we all pretended to be experts.

There should be a ground, battery and start posts on the starter. The alternator goes on the battery post.
