Email address in post / security dialog
I just realized that I think being able to put email address in the post would be nice, but when the post is added, it checks for the dude"@"gmail.com and instaed of linking to mailto:[email protected], it displays a dialog with a random code before it executes the mailto:

Re: Email address in post / security dialog
What in Al Gore's name are you talking about?
Are you getting 'random code' after you click on the link?

Sounds like a browser issue, the forum can't do that. What browser are you using? Can you say step-by-step what you did to reproduce it?

So it does
Anyway, it's not a good idea to post email addresses on the forums as they will be picked up by spam bots.

That's because you're using [url]. Use [EMAIL] instead.

Re: Email address in post / security dialog
We discourage users from posting emails. I get many requests from people who have done so, requesting their posts be deleted. We don't delete posts so be sure you don't put anything in a post that you don't want to be on the web for a long time.

And that's a smart decision

Re: Email address in post / security dialog
In fact, if I find someone's email address in a post, I edit that post and removed it, and post an explanation of why I did so. In addition, I will inform the member that if they wish to share their email address with other members to please use our PM system.

Umm, this was a suggestion on how to actually use email address in posts yet keep them away from spiders.

I can think of no purpose for using an email address in the body of a Q&A thread.

Unless you are wanting people to respond directly to you so you don't have to come back to the forum....
But then, that would be a bit insulting to the members of the forum
Best to use direct people to your profile and turn the option for allowing email on. That puts your actual address behind forms and thus prevents it from being spidered.
