Re: Ram Problem
Most probably the rest 64MB is being used by your grapgics card.
Hit Del during boot to enter BIOS Setup. Go to Graphics settings and see how much RAM it is sharing.
If you don't play games a lot, you can decrease it if your BIOS supports it. Many of today's m/b doesn't support less than 64MB for graphics.

Re: Ram Problem
In both cases you were getting 64MB less.. so it sounds like iPrank's theory of the graphics card using 64MB is correct. Presumably your graphics card is "on board" or "shared memory".
Try iPrank's suggestion for correcting it.

Re: Ram Problem
No. The company is not cheating you. Atleast not in RAM.
(Your Physical RAM) - (RAM Displayed by Windows) = (RAM Shared by Graphics Card)
256MB - 192MB = 64MB
512MB - 448MB = 64MB
Your m/b is sharing 64MB ram in both cases.
Does your computer shows that black 'boot-up' screen (P.O.S.T.) ? Or is it showing company logo ? (in any case you can change this setting from BIOS setup)
In that boot-up screen, it will show your total amount of RAM correctly. What does it say ?
I don't know if you have any experience with BIOS setup. So, please don't get me wrong.
Altering BIOS setup may kill your computer. I would recommend you to consult a friend who knows it. Or if you don't have any h/w savvy friend, enter in the setup, see everything there, BUT PLEASE DON'T SAVE ANYTHING UNTIL YOU ARE SURE.
As your computer is still under warranty, I think the best thing is, calling the tech support.
