    Our first demo!

We just had our first demonstration of our software product with a potential customer!

    5 years of development...

    ...what a great feeling.

We are changing our business model (btw - is anyone else experiencing some odd delays while typing in the "thread textbox" - is it this new Chars Left counter?)...

back to what I was saying...

Instead of up-front cost plus annual support and maintenance fees we are going with a fixed cost for each month - forever

For that fixed cost they get whatever they ask for in changes and enhancements - we want to sell the service and not the product - and have the customer forever!

Someone's taking a page out of Microsoft's hardball textbook.

Grats again though. If you get a sample app up and running (trial version or something of that nature), I'd love to see it!

But isn't that pushing it upon them? What if they go an entire year without any need for maintenance?

    We want needy customers!

Actually with all the state and federal requirements our customers always need enhancements.

And we are going to share the enhancements from customer A with customer B - a big old happy communal software group!

The school districts and municipalities we deal with always purchase maintenance - they need that "protection".

    Re: Our first demo!

I record things with this program called Wink (free): http://www.debugmode.com/wink/ It basically takes snapshots of the screen/window and then stores them in a flash file and then creates a sprite for the mouse. For certain things, this may work better than just dumping MPEGs of your screen.

You can easily tell that its not a "normal" video when you make something with wink, but that may not be a problem. You can also insert little text boxes and what not on frames to describe or explain something. You should at least check it out... even if it doesn't do what you need for this application, you may find a use for it in the future.

Thanks Robert - and everyone else!

This customer will have 180.5 users (we charge by the number of certified staff members) - so I think SBS 2003 might not fit the bill for them
