Tell me something about your country
Hi folks,
I have a few questions. In your native country, what are some good/bad hand signs or verbal forms of communication?
I know that "thumbs ups" can be good or bad depending on the country.
How bout words? Are they any words that say... english words, but sound like a curse word in other countries? Is their a protocol for the way people communicate in your country?
Sorry about all the questions. I've been giving a project where I need to interview several people online and get information like the above.
Just dump whatever you feel like typing. Any help you can give is great.
I don't go out much (love my computer), so i really don't have time to go out and meet people and get information about their countries way of communication.
Thanks again.
Also, this is my first post in the chit chat, and it looks like a pretty cool place to hang out.

Re: Tell me something about your country
Ummmmmm. First off, what country are YOU from? Would be kind of silly mentioning some custom you are already very familiar with.

We spit to one another when we communicate.

Re: Tell me something about your country
Traveling in a fried-out combie
On a hippie trail, head full of zombie
I met a strange lady, she made me nervous
She took me in and gave me breakfast
And she said,
"Do you come from a land down under?
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."
Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language?"
He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich
And he said,
"I come from a land down under
Where beer does flow and men chunder
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."
Lying in a den in Bombay
With a slack jaw, and not much to say
I said to the man, "Are you trying to tempt me
Because I come from the land of plenty?"
And he said,
"Oh! Do you come from a land down under? (oh yeah yeah)
Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover."

Re: Tell me something about your country
I'd like to be as lonely as NoteMe
Especially in Miami....or just a few miles south of there, but that's another story.
I lived in the Florida Keys for five years, so basically I know the same hand gestures that you see every day.

I don't have a cultural identity and am ignorant to all forms of gestural communication. Except for the universal peace symbol which we see so regularly when going down highways.

Re: Tell me something about your country
Here in Canada, we eat blubber on Mondays and Fridays. We also go whaling every other Wednesday.
During the summer, our wives spend most of their time maintaining the structural stability of our igloos, while the males fend off wild animal attacks coming to consume our children.
Our hydro comes from beaver dams which is how I am typing this message online, right now.
If you have any more questions about us (or our Lumberjacks...damn Lumberjacks, stealing all our women) feel free to ask!

Its too cold up here for coniferous (sp?) trees to grow. The only leaves we could eat, are pine needles
