    Zacarias Moussaoui

What is your opinoin on the verdict? Is life in prison what he should have gotten? Should he have gotten the death penalty? And why did he not receive the death penalty?

Because with their belief system it is better to die for their cause then to be held captive for the rest of his life serving no purpose.

They should actually put him to death secretly with everyone thinking hes got life in prison. Best of both worlds.

I guess probably because at the time of 9/11 he was already in the prison so maybe that is the reason why they could not sentence him to death.

It would have set pretty scary precedence if he had got the death penalty. Imagine being put to death for not telling the police something.

You would adapt a verdict to the suspects belief system?

They have sentenced him to death.

What worse place to put a criminal other than living with American criminals. I imagine his life expectancy has just decreased to one month. I guarantee prison officials had the foresight to put him next to rapists and murderers.

I think he should be put into prison with the biggest strongest black guy in prison, (also known as 'bubba') and then rapped over, and over, and over, and over, and over.

Actually, I would like to see him die rather than take $36,000 or more in tax dollars a year just to keep his dirty but in jail.

Yes but if he only lived 3 months tops, it would be worth the $10,000 to see how he disgracefully dies in prison.

As far as choice of executioneer: Where's the good old cannibalistic prisoners when you need them?

Jeffrey Dohmer died. I bet the arabs would love to know their man was killed, raped, and then eaten.

What was he on trial for then? He was arrested on immigration charges and in jail at the time of the attacks. The prosecutions case was that he was responsible for all the deaths because he lied to the police/feds

He didn't really kill anyone though. He didn't order anyone to die.
So you can't give him capital punishment.

    Life in prison is appropriate.

I believe he will be headed to the UltraMax in CO, which means he will barely ever interact with other prisoners. McVeigh has already been put to death, and the unabomber is the only other high profile inmate at that facility that I am aware of.

    Re: Zacarias Moussaoui

If he's going to a supermax - it's 23 hrs locked down, and 1 hour a day in a small fenced in area by yourself where you can walk back and forth. Kinda like a little dog run. How appropriate. The judge tore him a new one with her parting shot:
"Mr. Moussaoui, when this proceeding is over, everyone else in this room will leave to see the sun ... hear the birds ... and they can associate with whomever they want," she said. "You will spend the rest of your life in a supermax prison. It's absolutely clear who won."

"Mr. Moussaoui, you came here to be a martyr in a great big bang of glory," she said, "but to paraphrase the poet T.S. Eliot, instead you will die with a whimper."
    Awesome.

Try this one, though. The only crime / punishment combination in the Constitution is treason / death, but one must be a citizen to commit treason, right? Logically, shouldn't some laws be on the books to account for the same behaviors by non-citizens that would have the same types of punishments, including death?

So they stopped him before he was able to do anything and you people think that lightens the sentence?

    Re: Zacarias Moussaoui

Oh, no. I think that what he did is right up there with treason, and you don't have to kill in order to be executed for treason.

There are federal laws that cover the same crimes for non-citizens. He got tried for breaking them. I think he got off easy.

Hopefully, he will calm down and learn something other than how to hate. If he doesn't, his next life will be unpleasant -- he'll be born into another muslim family, but as a girl.

I firmly believe he should have had all charges against him dropped. Then drop him off in the middle of times square.

He has a tune? More of a discordant cacophony.

Personally, I don't think he should have been killed. Looking at all the posts here, people are basically trying to find some kind of punishment that they feel might be satisfactory, and they all sound unsatisfied with what they come up with. He accomplished what he wanted: He made people react. Some reacted with anger, some with sorrow, but all reacted. Further, he was willing to die to get that reaction. Basically, nobody can strike back. Had he died, we couldn't touch him. If we kill him now, then nobody can touch him beyond that. If we chant and shout and spit at him, he gets to revel in it.

I would say that the best punishment is that he be forgotten. Stick him in a hole somewhere and keep him completely ignored and out of touch. All his inflamatory statements were effectively keeping peoples anger level up. Keeping the reactions going. Put him aside and move on, it's what he appears to desire the least.

I can't spell it, but there was that Greek story about the guy who was condemned to push a huge rock up a hill. Once he got it near the top of the hill it rolled back to the bottom
