extremely slow load
I just installed VS.NET 2003 with a lot of difficulties... There was some kind of problem with the windows installer, so I had to do the following to make it work:
Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs.
2. Click Start, click Run, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK. Even if you do this correctly, it may look like nothing occurs, or you may briefly see an hourglass. After you run this command, the operation is complete.
3. Try your Windows Installer-based application again.
I rebooted after this, and it took me to the windows login screen just fine. After I click on my name to start my session, it takes it probably 15 minutes to load everything. The beginning is just a plain screen, then some icons start showing up, and eventually it loads. Even when it is fully loaded I can't click on anything or it will freeze up.
I thought about doing a repair install, but for some reason when I choose to boot from CD it says it's checking hardware components and then goes to a black screen. I dual boot with linux, so that could be the problem.
What exactly should I do? I was able to run CHKDSK, but that didn't help any. I would like to keep my stuff if it's possible!

Re: extremely slow load
maybe chk your ram and hdd space andstuff like virtual mem etc also too many programs at startup can make things slow. when it starts to work a little go to start>run>type msconfig>goto startup >uncheck all keeping the display and sound apps>restart .this can sometimes help

This would be the first thing I would check, and then check Microsoft's RAM requirements. If you only meet those requirements you are going to have problems. My rule of thumb has always been to have at least double the RAM Microsoft tells me I need for a minimum.

Re: extremely slow load
Thanks guys. The weird thing is it started after I did those commands on the msiexec file. I didn't have VS.NET installed at that very time. Everything was fine before.
Is there some kind of process that this file would run under? I know it's something to do with the startup like you guys said, but it has to be something dealling with that file...
The weird thing is the cpu usage is very low and not many processes are doing anything. This is a 3 month old built computer, so I know it has more than enough power to run the processes. Whenever I boot into safe mode everything works fine. I'm not sure what process is causing this, but maybe I can find it by trial and error
