    installing vs.net

I'm trying to install an old trial version of visual studio.net, but it WONT install! I click to try and install the prerequisites, but everyone of them fail. I thought about just bypassing the pre's and skipping to VS, but that also failed. After all that, I tried installing the .NET framework.... that also failed.

What on earth am I doing wrong?

Not insulting you or anything here, so please don't be offended, but are you sure you're logged in as an admin ?

And could you tell us more about what happens when it "fails". Like error messages? screenshots if any... you know what i mean

No big deal... Guess you gotta ask. The answer is yes.

Sure.. I attached some screenshots, but I there's not much I say about what I'm doing other than I'm clicking the installer and this happens!

This might help some. I looked at the installation log and this seemed to be the problem:

[04/30/06,13:29:50] Setup Runtime Files: ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : Error code 1601 for this component means "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.
Although I'm not sure what that means....

you might try removing the windows installer from add/remove programs. and reinstalling it. do you have/or had any other versions of visual studio or the .net framework installed?

    Re: installing vs.net

Well, the good news is I got it installed, finally.
The bad news is I just crapped out my system by following the directions I found on google

I do appreciate the help, though. I'll post a new thread with my new problem
