    Gas prices

So are gas prices going up in Europe too?

Or is it just that our Oil Companies are screwing us in America?

    Re: Gas prices

The reason that the USA is lower then the rest of the world is because we have our own refineries and process the crude oil ourselves. Thus, saving costs.

Where can I find gas for that price in CA? Wont happen. Try adding just over a $1.00 and you will be at our prices of $4.04 a gallon. Cost me at least $50 a tank and it lasts for about 4 days.

    It's about a £1 a litre here. Roughly $1.79 or €1.44.

And that's nothing. Then you consider that my parents are GPs. They have to travel all the time

Ya but you guys dont have all the refineries that we do. So that drives the prices up. Whenever there is an accident or explosion at a refinery the prices go up at least .50 - 1.00.

When Katrina was threatening refineries on the gulf coast prices started rising just at the thought of them being hit.

We have some refineries, and a source of crude... but we don't get the low prices that you guys do - we haven't got the political muscle.

Well thats two birds with one stone right? Obesity and fuel cost.

I would ride a bike to work, but there is no bike lane, and I'm too lazy.

Maybe we should have a gas protest?

They've even threatened to try and get ahold of me on VBF. My mom told me she's been on here a couple of times just to make sure I'm still alive.

They tried to have one of those a little over a year ago. It didn't work out. Supposedly, everyone was suppose to not buy gas on that day. The thing is, gas purchases doubled the next day. I took advantage of the situation and enjoyed the short lines.

    Re: Gas prices

The main reason our gas prices are so high are 3 reasons:

    1) Environmentalists. Thanks to them tree hugging hippies, we haven't had a new oil refinery built here in America in over 25 - 30 years. More refineries would mean more oil (hence more gas is made) to meet the demands of us consumers.

    2) Issues between us and Iran. Or so the newspaper says. However it sorta makes sense. If we get into conflicts with other countries who sells us goods, they are bound to price gouge us.

    3) Oil companies purposly price gouging us just so they can keep their multimillion dollar salleries. Even coming up with excuses to up prices such as hurricane Katrina.

The gas will run out eventually - pretty quickly if the prices are too low. High prices just mean that people work harder to find alternatives.

    Kyoto anyone?

Naw, we just need teleportation pods so we can instantly beam around to whereever we need to go. No gas needed, no traffic, environmental savings, time savings, and the list goes on and on.

Not to mention the fact that about 70% of what we pay for petrol in the UK is tax.

If I remember right, the last time I bought gas it was about $2.30 or so. I hear it has gone up since then. I really should get out more, but my 2 mile commute is just too nice.

My job is .8 miles away from the house , but that means nothing when you consider the fact that I delivery food all over the city , so no "real" savings...

Not so, until fairly recently, we were one of the more expensive states in the contiguous 48. Now, for reasons unknown, we appear to be one of the cheapest. I don't think we will retain that honor.

Regular is about $2.89 here I believe. Although within a couple of blocks it can get up to $3.00. In fact, right across the street from my regular gas station the price is 10¢ different.
