    Make new forum

Since it is hard to figure out 2003/2005, why don't you just create two forums, one for 2003 1.1 and 2005 2.0?

    Re: Make new forum

There is lots of common ground between the two, so it makes sense from that point of view to have them together (otherwise many people would post questions to both forums).

Also, believe it or not, many people don't actually know which version they are using - so having separate forums would cause even more confusion for them.

    Re: Make new forum

We do have a new feature in the VB.NET, C#, and ASP.NET. When creating a new thread you have the option of selecting the version of .NET that you are using and that will be appended to your thread subject like so...

    In the vb.net forum.
    "[2005] How do I show a form?"

This will help members to identify which version is being discussed wiothout having to view the thread first.

    The
"Please select your version of Visual Studio" Should Be Required. I think you should change it so you must pick one before submitting

Yes, we discussed that possibility but felt it would be good to introduce it as an option first.

That’s my whole point, the option is not mendatory and its in the top of the page. I don’t think people actually notice it just because its in top of the page. Making it a must and everyone will notice it

Why is it so hard? As always (well almost) with Microsoft, new release is an enhanced version of previous and in most cases is nothing more than a "major bug fix PLUS few new features". Unless it's a brand new product (like VS.Net was vs VS6) the two products have tons of common functionality so how is it so "hard to figure it out" I don't understand. If something doesn't exist in one version then it MUST be the other (like "My" namespace in 2005...).

    Re: Make new forum

Even if the framework version doesn't apply in the question, often a proposed solution could be achieved one way in '05 and another way in earlier since it relies on an '05 feature, so people are constantly saying "If you have .NET 05 do this... if not do blah blah" etc.

We talked about this among the crew at considerable length, and decide this feature we added was all that was needed, as opposed to a new forum.

And when JPnyc says "considerable length", he means just that. This debate went on for a while resulting in the inclusion of the option buttons as a solution that would best fit the needs of the most.
