[RESOLVED] I'm receiving multiple notification mails about the same thread

I think it's happening just at work, not at home, example: I have 10 unread notifications about the same thread, as far as I know, a notification mail is sent to me and, if i don't read it, it shouldn't send another, it has always been like that. This site uses a cookie to confirm mail reception? At work there are some security restrictions, it could be the reason? If that's the case, then, if the mails are not being confirmed as received to the sender, then why it keeps sending me mails about the same thread?

That's the way it has always worked for me (in all forums).

I am receiving several notifications for the same thread as jcis, even tho I hadn't looked at it for a while (but am looking at other threads).

Well, that's something I didn't know, it sounds logical. the big difference is that, at home i have messenger, and i can see notifications, but not messenger at work, that must be the reason.
Thanks Si, not good news to me anyway, this means that, if a leave a message and I don't open the notification, but I keep surfing the forums, and that thread gets in a big roll, with many people answering then i could find 50 notifications about that single thread when i open my mail, lol, ugly, really ugly.
Are you all sure about this?

EDIT: Confirmed, it's happening the same with this thread, well as you can see I use to read my notifications inmediately (and I had never browse the site without the ability to see instant notifications), that's why i didn't know about this accumulations until now

I often find that when I go on an "answering spree" that I get a few notifications for the same thread - I just delete the duplicates before I start reading!

As I understand it now, and as Si said, If you make a post in a thread, then you recieve a notification (don't open that mail) and then you keep browsing VBF (refreshing the browser or chaging URL, not keeping quiet), then some flag is being changed and all your mail notifications will be sent to you again, so if someone answers to that thread after you refreshed your browser, you'll be notified, if you keep browsing, and people keeps posting in that thread you keep receiving mails, because that flag is changed each time you refresh your browser in VBForums.

I understand your explanation but I'm not convinced that that happens. I'll keep on eye on my notifications and I'll try to confirm it one way or the another.

I can confirm it's how it works for me. I usually browse from home with MSN showing me popups when I get notifications. Even if I don't visit a thread I'm subscribed to again if I'm still browsing other parts of VBF I will get notifications whenever anyone else replies to that thread. If I stop browsing VBF, I do not get multiple notifications for the same thread, only different threads - so I slowly get less notifications overall.

BTW, if you find email notifications clog up your inbox you can always set up a custom filter (I assume you're using Hotmail since you mentioned messenger) and direct VBF emails to a particular folder. I currently have 12477 notification emails in mine

If I refresh my browser and just then (within ~10 secods) someone posts in one of my subscribed thered, I get a notification immideatly. (No 2 minute delay)

But sometimes I get notifications after 4-5 monutes, even if I was active in VBF.

It appears that you do get multiple notifications. I guess that I'm here so often and read the posts as they appear that I never noticed it before.

Granted - we are assuming your settings are set to instant notification rather than one of the other settings. Additionally, it should be noted that 'instant' isn't always instant. Responses are done in batches. If the site is busy (which it usually is, then it can be near-instant. If it posts were slow, it could take a little longer.
