Resolved [RESOLVED] New Access lock file created after closing

    Hi all.

Let me see I can explain this one right...

We have a series of Access 2000 databases on a laptop running Windows XP. These same databases are also held on a network share that has a drive mapping on the laptop. You can open and use the databases fine, and then you can close out like normal.

With the file explorer open you can even see the Access Lock file get released. Here is the weirdness. After it all terminates successfully, a NEW lock file appears. It is not deletable and will prevent updates to the DB. Use a Windows 2000 eqquipped machine to open the same DB(network version) and this behavior does not occur.

The laptop does this for the local DB copies as well as the network versions. The only common denomitor here is Windows XP. Does XP do soemthing funky with lock files that anyone is aware of?

    Thanks
    John

On the XP systems, right click the MDB file in Windows Explorer. On the General Tab near the bottom, is there text that indicates the file is blocked and an Unblock button?

No, I didn't see anything like that.

I was just informed the lock files don't show up for no reason at all. They show up when you try to open the DB a second time.

Well our head tech here just brought an interesting read to me.

Seems this is limited to "Tablet" pcs using XP for tablets or something like that. My guess is it's a resource release problem.

Anyway, this thread I read(that ryhmes!) says to open Access then open the DB from inside the App.
