need help in hex file encription removal

i have a few older hex files that have a encription on them, that will not allow me to alter them in hex editor as i used too, the fellow that added them is no longer around to help me out, and lets say i am not the smartest in removing them...

i was wondering if some one could lead me into the right direction or possibly i could send them the file to remove it, i am inneed of breaking this, thanks again

Let's start at the beginning:

These are files on a disk drive? Are they marked Read Only?

Are they text files that look anything at all like line after line of this stuff:

:10327889BE87FE9A5

Or are they executable files that you're editing in a hex editor? ("Hex file" doesn't really mean much - all bytes on any file can be represented as hex numbers.)

Which hex editor? If it's freeware, where can I download a copy? (Maybe it's some setting in the editor.)

What do you mean by encryption? The data in the files isn't what it looks like in the program that uses the files? Like it's all random numbers and letters, but the program shows it as names and addresses?

Are these files used with a particular program? Would I recognize the name of the program? What's the extension on the file names (the letters to the right of the ".")? Are they "<something>.hex" files? If not, why do you call them "hex" files?
