    C++ or VB.net?

    My cousin wants to go to school to learn C++ she called me and asked if i knew if it was easy enough for her, i told her that i do Visual Basic and not C++ but ive heard that C++ is harder. What should i tell her to do, go with VB or C++?
    On a side note she has been a bartender and a waitress the majority of her life.

    If she doesn't know programming at all then both will present their own set of difficulties.

    What is harder?

    That depends entirely upon the person.

    My suggestion would be to learn both VB.NET and C#...that would certainly broaden her employment opportunities.

    The answer to your question also depends on what she is wanting to do. Why is she wanting to take a programming class? Is it to get a job or to simply learn how to program for herself?

    If she is just doing it for the fun of learning, then I'd push her towards VB. If she is doing it for some other reason, then we'd need to know that before being able to make recommendations.

    Prior to .Net almost evrybody would suggest VB for the beginner but since it no longer fits that description (easy to learn) I would recommend C++ so she would get some solid base knowellege (or foundation if you will) IF programming is what she wants to do for living. Otherwise she can simply experiment with VB at home building some "Hello World" type apps and save tons of money.
