    How firfox extensions install?

    I am thinking about how when we click on install on mozilla's website to install firefox extension it directly get downloaded and give message to be active on restart ?

    The file extension "xpi" is associated with firefox.... so when the file is downloaded, it can be opend automaticaly by Fx.

    Its true if its downloaded from mozilla website not if from other websites.

    If you go to Options->Content. You have the option of asking Firefox to tell (warn) you when an extension is being installed. Extensions, can contain malicious code, have access to the clients browser and personal data and should ONLY be installed from trusted locations like the Mozilla website.

    You can add to the list of trusted locations by clicking the exceptions button next to the "warn before isntalling extensions" setting.

    By default, Firefox blocks the extension completely if the site is not in the extensions list.
