The CommonWealth Games
A very special tip-of-the-hat to the Aussies for a wonderful Commonwealth games.
In a sporting event that represents a third of the world's population, once again the Australians have shown that they're the people to set a party.
Thank you all.
Most of all it's nice to see a coalition of like minded nations without weapons and without conflict to gather together in one place to compete as friends; regardless of sensibility, regardless of politic, regardless of religion.
Sydney 2000 was good, Melbourne 2006 was better.
A marvellous example to the rest of the world.

Agreed. When it comes to events such as these, the Aussies are second to none, in my opinion.
Second to none in the medal table too! Oh well, at least England was the best of the rest.

If only they didn't show 38 hours of lawn bowls on our free to air tv I would've been a fair bit happier

We can't place well in the olympics?
Australia came 4th in the medal tally at athens, and had over 7 times the amount of gold medals that america had (per capita)

Nemaroller: Look, my boy, we've let you play out on your own just about long enough. Unless you start to behave I think it's time that I, personally, advise the Queen to revoke your independence.
Play nicely with the other childern, please, my boy.

Sure they can. There is a world league now too. If they have the money to purchase the rights for the next expansion team and can get to the US then its all good. The MLB even makes it hard to get a team in the US too.

So, if I buy an american team and go to the US then I can play baseball That doesn't make it a 'World' Series, it just means that you're not xenophobic!

Re: The CommonWealth Games
Well to have it global then there wouldnt be a championship series every year as it would cost allot to transport all the teams all around the world. Imagine ticket prices.
It makes better sense to have them all get together like the olympics in order to compete and all can see.

I agree. I'm not saying that there should be a global competition, just that it shouldn't be called the 'World Series' when it quite obviously isn't.

Re: The CommonWealth Games
Canada has two MLB teams that participates in the World Series - and the stadiums are in Canada.
Japan and a host of 16 other countries participate in the World Baseball Classic which is sponsored by MLB.

Re: The CommonWealth Games
As a Brit working and living out in Oz, I have to commend the fact that the Australians are so enthusiastic about the commonwelth games... far more enthusiastic than the Brits. However, the coverage of it out here is sooooooooo biased towards Australia, that is is totally unwatchable. They do not cover any event that they are not good at. The only events that get coverage are the ones that they have won medals in. There were no interviews with non Australian competititors, no highlights of events that did not include Aussis. The closing ceremony was all about AFL!!!!!!! That's not a game that is part of the commonwealth games! ***?

Well when you think about it, the coverage is biased towards australians, because hey, it's being broadcasted in australia! i also saw a bit of coverage of badminton, table tennis and we're not good at them! ;p
