Re: Online Certification
MCSD.NET as with the release of VS 2005 there are already new certifications and tests. There is a upgrade test that will convert your MCSD.NET to 2005 so you can get the best of both this way with only having to tkae a single upgrade/conversion test, although its a hard test.
MCSD for VB6 has been retired since June of 2004.

Hi Rob, Thanks for your wonderful advice.
I got the new MCSD test details from Microsoft site too. Now I’m going to start preparing for MCSD with all your (Vb Gurus) guidance. Your energetic advices regarding this will be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Online Certification
Yoda. You're certified??
The reason I'm asking is because I have thought about doing this several times.
However, I live in a small town and there are no resources for help. I'd have to do this on my own.
My question is, professionally, is it worth it? Will it really help me land a better job?

Which is better? MCSD or MCAD?

Re: Online Certification
I got my first job above the other applicants because I was qualified and I was the only one that had a MCP. They loved it that I did it on my own, showing self motivation.
Yes, I am a certified MCP and missed my MCSD by 1/2 question on one test and 3 questions on another.
In order of attaining certifications:
MCP - 1 Test
MCAD - 3 Tests
MCSD - 5 Tests
MCSD is the more advanced certification that us programmers want to achieve.

Re: Online Certification
C# pays the most and is probably more in demand but that is just what I see in my area. It may differ depending on location.

Re: Online Certification
MCSD is what some of us have already achieved
The 2.0 Framework has a separate set of exams you can take, MCPD for example.

Re: Online Certification
Question. Do you bascially achieve a MCAD on your way to a MCSD?? Or are they two totally separate things??

Re: Online Certification
Yes, on your path to acheiving MCSD you obtain MCAD when you pass 3 of the tests.
The path:
MCP: 1 Test
MCAD: MCP + 2 Tests
MCSD: MCAD + 2 Tests
They are cumulative so to speak.

Re: Online Certification
No, in order to do MCAD or MCSD you take the same tests and the only difference is the extra requirements and/or electives.
MCP:
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mc...quirements.asp
MCAD:
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mc...quirements.asp
MCSD:
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mc...entsdotnet.asp
As you will see from the links, they all have certain tests in common. These tests count towards your next level of certification.

Re: Online Certification
Yoda,
But.... (after looking at the new certifications) Do they even offer the MCSD now?
Would you have to try to get the MCTS, MCITP and the MCPD now??
Or, do I have time to start the MCSD certification and finish it if I started in April?
If so then can you answer a few more quesstions for me?
1. How often do they offer the tests?
2. How long would it take to prepare for each test?
3. Do you really need 2 solid years of experience to pass the tests? ( I have about 9 solid months of experience of working with .NET)
Thanks....

The answer to both is try your hand at some practice tests and see how you do.

I'm not familiar with CCNA. What is that?
As far as what is better, that would depend on what your employer is looking for and what direction you want your career to go in.

Re: Online Certification
CCNA = Certified Cisco Network Analyst or or but basically a Cisco network certification.

Get both. I'm currently getting my CCNA and MCSE. MCSE is higher than MCSA, same material but two extra exams.

Re: Online Certification
If your already in the processor getting the 2003 certs then I say finish that track and then start on the 05 conversion test.
If you havent started at all then if your fluent in .net then maybe do the 03 certs still with the conversion test. It will probably be easier then just going with all 05 tests.

No can do as the tests for VB6 are retired (discontinued). You can no longer get any certifications for VB6 at all since June 30 2004.

Re: Online Certification
There are totally new certs for 2005, they are now under "Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist", and "Microsoft Certified Professional Developer"...
Read about it here : http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcsd/
Basically, the MCTS is a prerequisite for the MCPD...
