Resolved [RESOLVED] I Need a New Screen Name - Feedback Appriciated

Yeah, I'm pretty much sick of this one. It's unprofessoinal and lame. I though it up like 5 years ago. making the switch is tough because I use it everywhere, but I am heading to college soon, so it is a good time to make the switch.

As far as good screen names go I think Penagate has the best one ever. It will never be taken at any forums. It sounds reasonably professional (unlink mine) and probably has a story to go with it too.

I think I want the screename to involve the word "wisdom" or "wise" because that is something that has always been important to me: wisdom over knowledge (or both ). I tried looking up "wisdom" in other languages but none of them were easy to remember. Obviously I can remember them, but I want it to be easy for other people to remember as well.

I want to avoid numbers in the screen name and I want to make it easy to pronounce and remember. If I did add a number to the end it would be 314 (3.141592654 = Pi ... That was from memory).

Anyway, here are some of my thoughts:

Modsiw - Wisdom backwards. But it is taken in most places
Enoesiw - Wise One backwards. I googled it and nothing came up so it will probably always be available no matter where I use it. It is also fairly easy to pronounce.

That is about all I can think of. Do these seem easy to pronounce/remember? I guess I kind of had to work for a few minutes to figur eout how to pronounce it so other people probably will too. Maybe if I capitalized Enoesiw like this: EnoEsiw (E - NO - E - SUE is how I pronounce it).

    Any ideas?

PS - I'm not sure if I want to change my screen name here. I have 2 gems and almost 2000 posts. I'll consider it though.

Why not think of some names that are not crap?

Spelling stuff backwards is both lame and emal.

Think of something original. Mendhak, Noteme, Wossname ...these are all original because they have a story behind them (frog, illiterate and literate respectively).

You shouldn't have a system behind choosing a name because that makes it instantly predictable.

I can't see anything wrong with the one you've got to be honest.

Just for gods sake don't use your real name. Thats just lazy
I don't live here any more.

Re: I Need a New Screen Name - Feedback Appriciated

Well the story behind my current screen name is non-existant. I say infront of my computer for a half an hour trying to think of something random and this is what I came up with. It is an old TV show (i r monkey), but that's it.

I do want a new one (although, like I said, I might keep my current one for these forums). I want to change it because, unlike Mendhak, NoteMe, Wossname, Grilkip, Penagate, etc., I can't use my screenname/email when, oh say, filling out a job application or whatever. I also come across as immature with a screen name like "eyeRmonkey".

I've been trying to think of a story that would work well for a screen name for a week or 2 now, but nothing has come up. The only other ideas for screen names that I have had have been things that I am interested in. That is useless because the things I am interested in are always changing and I will want to change my screen name once I lose interest in that topic.

I had a feeling the "wisdom" idea wouldn't be too popular, but I've got nothing else at the moment.

You're a loon! That name's a great one. You haven't even gone to college, which pretty much indicates your age, so there is one suggestion that most everybody older has: You've got doo-doo for brains, just like everyone else, so don't trust your judgement on what's going to be cool in a few years. There's too much angst when you're young. Get a bit older and you might regret giving up a name that has some wry comedy to it. You can't have much of a backstory until you have some back to story. Don't worry about that, just call it retro and go with it.

Shaggy, that is the most confusing post I have seen all day

as for my name, there was probably a story behind it once but buggered if I can remember it now. I came up with it when I was about 9 and it's stuck.

eyeRmonkey is great. Anyway if you change it now no-one will know who you are

Re: I Need a New Screen Name - Feedback Appriciated

    Shaggy,

I'm not trying to do what is cool. I'm not even trying to pick something with a backstory. I just need something to use that looks professoinal. Like I said, I need something I can put on job/college applications.

The best I can come up with from combining my first and last name (Jeremy Blanchard) is: Jechard. Jeremy Thomas Blanchard is my full name. Jemas maybe? Nah.

I need something that is professional, but still has some meaning. It needs to be easy to remember/pronounce and not taken at most sites.

I really don't have an issue with losing this screen name. I don't think I will ever regret it. As long as I like the new one I pick enough, it will be fine.

Your right, his post was confusing.

Sure they will know who I am. I'll put a giant:

    User formally known as eyeRmonkey

    ... in my signature.

Like I said. Not changing it is not really an option. I might keep it in some places, but I need something that will "stick" as Penagate says, that is professional or what not.

Re: I Need a New Screen Name - Feedback Appriciated

How about this... We rearrange the letters in eyeRmonkey to something more professional "sounding". Turn it into something like Penagate: Meaningless, but sounds good.

Thats a half-way decent way to do it... Maybe?

Well right now you look a hell of a lot more professional than the legions of youths that have email address like [email protected]

Anyway, my suggestion is, if you have to think about it that hard, it's not going to work. Don't worry about it, one day something will hit you that sounds good. And until then your current one is more than adequate, trust me.

Glad to add to the general confusion.

To sum up: I like your name as it is.

Frankly, I have never been tempted to add the fact that I spend hours a day on a forum to any resume I have ever made, even if it was a programming forum.

I agree Penagate that maybe I should just wait until something comes to me. But I was hoping that this thread would help me have that "ah hah!" moment for a perfect screen name. I guess I will just wait until something hits me.

    Tykor!!!

Mwhahahah! It hit me! I used that screen name in Star Wars Galaxies for two years. I spent weeks thinking of it. Perfect. Meaningful. Easy to remember.

Most user names need to be 6 characters at least though. I need to add something to I suppose... I don't want to add a number though. Any thoughts on that? Something to add to Tykor?

Like I said I will keep eyeRmonkey on these forums.

Edit: Mabe not. I suppose I will stick with eyeRmonkey. I am clearly a little moody on this issue.

Oh yeah - why didn't I see that...

Tykor - how professional - how unlame!

    That's got wisdom.

But where is it on the Penagate barometer?

Your current name is good - keep it

Hey, I've always been looking for a new screenname as well... I mean, SpeedyDog.. sounds like an eleven year old. Although I really do like eyeRMonkey... it's not that bad at all. Of course, I probably did make "SpeedyDog" when I was about eleven while playing Counter-Strike ...
