What OS are you running? If its NT based you can implement user security.

Re: Creating a password for folders?
Yes, XP is NT based kernal.
You right click on the folder and select sharing ans security and set it up for private use.

Re: Creating a password for folders?
Doesn't that only make it so that other users on the computer cannot see the folder? I want it so that when you try to open the folder, a box shows up that you must enter a password into in order for the folder to open.

Will this be for local or network access?

Re: Creating a password for folders?
Hmm, if they are loggin in with a different user name then the security should work. I'm not sure what else can be done as you may be able to place a Directory/File System Watcher on the directory for access but not sure how to prevent it.

Re: Creating a password for folders?
This may be as close as you can get but I dont think it will prevent access only changes.

Re: Creating a password for folders?
Setting folder security permissions would work, BUT you can only do this with machines that are connected to a domain. The 'Make this folder private' will encrypt the folder data and I believe only you'll have access too it.

Re: Creating a password for folders?
No realy sucessful way to do it programmatically either. Eveery example I seen always resulted in a corrupt or unorganized security properties and Windows would msgbox telling you it will fix it.

Re: Creating a password for folders?
one option is available "CACLS" command for XP, not sure how to use it,
though I can't use cause it supports only ntfs drive and I haven't it.
This one might be helpful.
Sanjay
Edit: My "Make this folder private" is disabled, how can I make it enable? or this one also suports for ntfs only?

Re: Creating a password for folders?
So then your running windows 95/98/Me? Nt 4/2000 Pro/XP are all NT based OS'. You can convert your file system from FAT32 to NTFS if your running one of the latter OS' I mentioned.

Re: Creating a password for folders?
Thanks
If you search the forums for "Convert" + "NTFS" that should get you the syntax and switches needed.
