I am looking into upgrading my processor/motherboard, and i wondered if i would have to reinstall windows if i did??
I thought not, because windows is stored on a hard disk and u tell the bios where to boot from, but my freind thinks u will have to reinstall it. Who is right??
Thanks

As long as you use the same HDD you don't have to reinstall it.

You set the Bios to boot from that HDD, and you set the cables to the HDD like they are now. Then it should be fine. The cable is importent.
Primary: Master/Slave
secondary: Master/Slave
It should be Primary: Master.

Although not necessary to reinstall, realize that since your changing motherboards the OS will detect new hardware related to the new motherboard system resources. This may prompt for new drivers, etc. Its probably not going to be completely plug-in old hard drive to new motherboard without anything more to do.

As with any hardware update, it may find it on the hard drive already, or may ask for the OS install disk, or it may be a disk provided with the motherboard. I suggest you keep a backup of the drive before swapping out to the new motherboard. Which OS are you using?

If we are talking on board sound card network card and so on, then we it will come from your mother board vendor. If we are talking AGP graphics cards, and PCI sound cards and so on, then you will find the drivers on their home page. IE ati.com and so on...
