..from Microsoft

Selected collating sequence not supported by the operating system. (Error 3228)
There is an invalid CollatingSequence setting in the Paradox key of the Windows Registry.

To fix the CollatingSequence setting

Exit your application.

Start the Registry Editor, navigate to the \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\3.5\Engines\Paradox key, and select the CollatingSequence value.

On the Edit menu, click Modify.

Specify either ASCII or International in the Value data box.

Restart your application, and then try the operation again.

hmm
i tried it and it was already set to ascii so i switched it to
international
vb was already running but my program wasn't

i didn't restart vb but i loaded my program and i still
had the error.

I will try rebooting my comptuer with both settings
when i garner up the patience, right now i jsut don't
care about that program :P

thank you very much for your help though!

lafor:
I also searched the kb and what i found is that there
is a manual fix for the databases in the 'general tab'
http://
<a rel="nofollow" hre....ASP
i can not use this, however, because my program needs
to open the database and some machiens this runs
on will only have the access + vb runtimes

what article was your post from exactly and doe'snt
my support for the collating sequence depend on
whether or not my machine is multi-language capable?
