I've recently came across some major forums and apparently site runs off vBulletin. It has few nice features and I'd like to show you what I think could be very nice addition to VBF. See attached images.
NO, the "Thanks" button does exactly what it says: it actually puts the "Thanks ..." message under particular post (or reply if you will) and it does NOT reflect on the reputation what so ever (at least I didn't noticed it). That is why I liked it. I can get you a screen shot if you want. And you can actually remove the "Thank you ..." after words (if you wish).

Screen shot not necessary, I certainly believe you, but, I know I've seen those Thanks buttons that do post reps.
So, the button you are talking about would auto post onclick something like "Thanks for the help"?
That's an alright feature rhino,
glad you pointed it out.
It may or may not also add a rep, even if it doesnt given that it ads an actual entity it could be used for statistic purposes anyway.
I do sometimes get a rep from someone with just "thanks" i nthat and no actual reply to the thread, so i'm sure there are users which would prefer to simply hit a button then write out a reply.
the actual entity asside, im sure this could be achieved by an auto post and mass rep (rep all users replied to the thread), although definetly not a required feature and questionable from a social point of view, it could be a useful addition, i suppose whether admins approve it depends on whether its a vBull feature, and if not.. on the difficulty to add it.

If it is a feature, then it would be a simple matter of turning it on. If it is not, however, then adding presents its own set of problems.
We have a number of conventions that have been added to this site ([vbcode][/vbcode] tags is one of them) and everytime we go through a software upgrade all of those features have to be readded. The more features, the more work for the database/admin people at each software upgrade.

Yes I understand this, that's exactly why i said what i did if it is a large chunk of code that needs changing (i have never done PHP, and only viewed vBull source once, so i wouldnt know), it would be too painful to keep pulling accross
But the mention that it exists on multiple sites, n seems to blend into the site so well suggests it MIGHT be a feature

It is not a feature of this version that I'm aware of. It is likely a hack -- and worse, a hack that likely requires a database change. As such, I don't see it happening at this time.
It is an interesting feature though. Hopefully vBulletin will add it to a future version.
Brad!
