Lucky you. I never got any in school. Only learned through buying books as a kid with code, typing them in, wondering why they didn't work, debugging them, running them, fixing them, looking for more, ad nauseum.
Nobody knows what software they want until after you've delivered what they originally asked for.

Well, our class gets 2 periods per week, which makes 2 hours and a half per week. This could be due to Canadian Standards.
And yes, I am talking about high school. Ever since the beginning of high school (3 years ago) , we've learned HTML, Flash, Adobe Premiere, XSI, VB, and of course, Office (Word, Excel, Publisher). Do I need to mention I am just 13 years old? Yet to come (still in high school): C#, Advanced VB, Advanced 3d Animation.

Ahhh My Highschool... One class even worth mentioning (since the rest were crappy "typing" classes)... but it was awesome. Autocad Design self-paced course, got through two semesters worth of stuff in about a month, after that, the teacher set me free to move onto AutoCad 3D Design, and 3DStudio... Lightwave, etc... months of just playing around with that ... my pictures are still up at the high school of the 3d images I printed out about 8 years ago

Re: Did anyone get less computer lessons when the went to high school?
i had microsoft office lessons a whole class on word , powerpoint , excel. those were fun. Took a crap webdesign class, teacher had never taught it of knew how. Me and 3 other guys pretty much taught it, and I had never done it before! Was a waste of time though, used frontpage, didnt learn nothing. There were NO programming classes. I was so mad. I would go to the library and use Qbasic and make games, the teachers would always throw the line... "Was that assigned by a teacher" She once even hit me with... "You know Qbasic is illegal"
That was like two years ago, if microsoft were to jail me for "illegally" downloading Qbasic... Well... I dont know what I do, but I doubt it.
All schools need programming classes

Re: Did anyone get less computer lessons when the went to high school?
My high school didn't start offering programming classes until my junior year (I did have LogoWriter when i was in 3rd grade). 1 semester QBASIC, 1 semester PASCAL, 1 semester C++ and then 1 semester "advanced" programing concepts. The teacher was also the school's network administrator, so it really was 6 nerds hanging out teaching ourselves and then getting evaluated on Fridays.
Ironically, it was the best way to teach the class. Instead of her teaching as if it was gosphel; it was 6 people testing and tweaking to see who can figure out the "best" way to do it (Pride and ego in moderation is actually a VERY good motivator). Originally, she would tell us that we're wrong and this is what the teacher's manual said to do it... But since it was the same 6 of us each semester in each class; she started to wear down and asked "why" we thought that way. Sometimes we were right, sometimes we were wrong. Other times we accomplished absolutely nothing and spent the whole class defending what we thought was "the way to do it" (which should be a class in itself and mandatory for any IT professional ).

uhm when i was in highschool i only had 1 on my senior year there (1999). For lessons, i only worked on DOS, then turning on pixels as program, lots of gotos, then 5.1 inch floppies. didn't know about ms and was mulling over how to memorize the keyboard keys for exams. , count yourself lucky.
