Grey Reps still exist after update?
Hey,
I noticed I've gotten reps from people with less than ten points lately, and still got a point for it.. Did the 'grey rep' bit change after this last forum update?

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
I myself have also received a few "Grayed Reps" lately. Maybe point(s) should be given if a person receives 5-20 of these reps within a specific time frame. Just a thought.
Regards,
Mark

That's more of a reason to develop a policy regarding these reps. The persons who gve these reps aren't any less thankful for the help that you provided to them.

Mark

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
I don't think they were broken. I just got one that was worth nothing.
Unless they fixed it real quick, I would have gotten a ton of them over the weekend.

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
I dont think there are any issues with this as we didnt upgrade to the most recent release so if there were issues with it it would have been noted in the release notes at vBulletin.
@ Bill, Perhaps the member that rep'd you had recently received a -ve and broought his points below the 20 minimum required.

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
Why not upgrade to the most recent version? Did they wait to be hacked to upgrade to the old version?

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
Its not always the most easiest to just upgrade to the latest available upgrade as it usually contains alot of unknown issues that can have a negative effect etc. So if you go with the latest stable known working upgrade your issues will be minimal hopefully.
Keep in mind that like before you upgraded to XP SP2 you had to plan for the complications created by SP2 first. If you just upgraded you would have all the issues to solve and possibly wait for the fixes for some of your apps, etc.

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
Well, I'm not waiting for SP3. If they plan on upgrading, (and we know that they could rollback in case of problems) why not save the hassle, and get the latest? Save having to fix the mods twice, which would be cheaper.
Unless there is a history of them releasing updates before they're ready...

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
You need to remember that Internet.com owns and manages ~30+ forum websites. So its more of a issue of having to do what it takes to get the site back up and then move on to the next. Once all the sites are secure they can get back to their long list of issues that are a priority. Once those are done then they can look at possibly upgrading again. also remember that upgrades cost alot of money too. So it has to be justified to apply an upgrade across all sites as a whole.

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
I assume that they license the software (was $160/year last time I looked) which included free updates and support. Don't know if it included 30 sites, though.

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
The cost is involved in having the development staff, which gets paid good money, spends the time applying the upgrades and fixes, etc.
I think we are going off topic and should no longer continue discussing this in this thread.

Re: Grey Reps still exist after update?
I looked at reputation ratings received by Mark Gambo and conipto. It appears that the people who rep'd you either had the proper requirements or else their ratings were valued at 0. This all looks to be working okay.
Also - Rushing to upgrade can be foolish. Our systems guys will upgrade when it makes sense -- be it when something is added to the software that is worth upgrading or when it has been fully tested and shown to be safe.
Also (side note to the side notes) SP3 for XP isn't due out until 2007 I believe (After Vista).
Brad!
