    Problem reading *.dat data format

    Dear All,

I have problem reading data from *.dat format. Anyone can help appreciated. Example:

I have lines of data in my "Attendance.dat":

    03321741!20060126!0!115732!06!
    03323192!20060126!0!115734!06!
    03322484!20060126!0!115736!06!
    03322657!20060126!0!115739!06!
    03322536!20060126!0!115758!06!
    03322405!20060126!0!115801!06!
    03323177!20060126!0!115803!06!
    03323175!20060126!0!115806!06!
    03322510!20060126!0!115827!06!
    03322474!20060126!0!115830!06!
    03323143!20060126!0!115903!06!

How can i select only a known data (ex: "03323177") field from the "Attendance.dat" and transfer it to a Table in database (Access Database, or SQL server table)?

    Please help,

    Thank you in advance.

you can do it with a text driver in odbc or first transfer the dat file to access and then work it as you do it normally in access.
    to convert to access
    1. Create empty mdb file
    2. rename your .dat file to .txt (is it readable in notepad)
    3. Click on Get External data -> Import and select the .txt file
    4. specify the character separated values and type the char as !
    5. proceed with other online things
now you have the mdb table.

Do you want to send all of this - 03323177!20060126!0!115803!06! - to your database, or just 03323177?
