SQL Reporting Services VS Crystal Reports 11

    Hello,
I am about to start a new project with lots of reporting that will be needed. The frontend of the project is in VB 6.0 and the backend is MS SQL Server 2000. I am new to both reporting programs and am wondering what would be the best to get use to as far as designing and deployment?

    Thanks for any input.

A lot depends on what kind of budget you have to purchasing reporting software.

Crystal is very sophisticated, but expsensive, not intuitive, and does require some fairly substantial dependency files when you roll your project out.

On the other end is MS Access. It is completely possible to write all of your reports in Access for a system such as you have described. I did this once with the only difference being that the backend I was using was Oracle. This does require you to rollout the Access database that houses your reports, but that isn't a big deal.

I would suggest you Google "Reporting" vb6 and see what comes up.

But wait, I did it for you.

See if you find anything you like in these.

It really isn't possible for anyone to tell you what is the best because what is the best, when it is all said and done, is what works for you, and your application.

    Thanks Hack,
I already have CR11 and have experienced problems deploying it on similar projects. I never really thought about access tho, that might be the more comfortable route to go.

    Thanks again.

Actually, the project manager of the project that was on that used Access switched to Access from Crystal because managment was tired of paying the licensing fee. LOL

It was the first time I'd ever used Access like that, and it worked out very well (although yours truly had to convert upwards of 70 odd existing reports )

Do you actually import the data into your access DB or link it somehow?
