[RESOLVED] Win98, WinME, Win2K and Framework 2.0
At my company I have a problem with legacy OS. I want to start designing software in .Net but I need to know if I can deploy it on our legacy machines. So my question is: Can I install Framework 2.0 on the following OS:
Win98
WinME
Win2K
If I can't install Framework 2.0 will I be able to install 1.1?
Thanks!
Regards,
Mark

Re: Win98, WinME, Win2K and Framework 2.0
MSDN absolutely MUST be the first place you visit for any information regarding developing with or for Microsoft products. I opened the MSDN homepage, clicked the link to the .NET Framework 2.0 redistributable and there was this information:
Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 3; Windows 98; Windows 98 Second Edition; Windows ME; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP Service Pack 2
So easy anyone can do it, let alone those of us elite enough to be software developers.

Thanks for the post. I guess I what I should have asked is there anyone who has developed applications for such a variaty of OS and if so what problems/difficulties did they find?

Um, I meant all of us, including you. As far as issues go, if the .NET Framework runs then you should have no issues with anything that is .NET-specific. Where you may run into issues is when you start using things outside of the Framework, like specific registry keys, WMI, etc. that will vary from OS to OS. That's the sort of stuff that you need to test on each specific OS.

I knew what you meant, I was just "breaking your shoes". I really do appreciate the help you and the rest of the VBF gang have given me during my transition period.
Thanks

I didn't mean that I meant all of us. I just said that to appear humble. My shoes is broke. Maybe I have a guilty conscience about my superiority complex. Oh, the therapy...
