Would you open a .MDB that someone sent to you?

I got a .MDB from someone in a PM...

    I don't ever use ACCESS - so I'm unsure...

"The file may not be safe if it contains code that was intended to harm your computer"

Would you all open this file?

No. I would whack it, and then inform the person that I got it from what happened, and politely ask why.

You can hold down the shift button when you open the file to prevent autorun code.

I would probably be curious and open it on one of my computers that I don't have anything important on. Unplug the network cable first.

If you want to, you can PM it to me, and I will open it.

MDB? I'd open it. It's not an MDE.

It is just a standard Windows warning, like you sometimes get for MP3s too at times. No harm.

pw=bs0911 - which is actually what got me worried in the first place...

I'm also alive after opening it. There is not code in the database at all, just a few tables.

Re: Would you open a .MDB that someone sent to you?

ok - since I know nothing about ACCESS...

Would one of you kind folks please try to open the file from VB - or at least send me the ADO connection string that would do so...

This person is getting a "can't find installable ISAM" error - which I feel is not related to the .MDB but related to the MDAC/ADO install myself...

Tell him to reinstall MDAC. I have a sneaking suspicion though, that this may be related to the MDB file having being made in Access 95/97.

Thanks all - I'm going to direct him to this thread - but I think we've already told him to check MDAC and didn't get resolution...

    Thanks again!

I believe mendhak is probably right on the money, and this person should be running MDAC 2.8 (which I think is the most current version)

Re: Would you open a .MDB that someone sent to you?

I didn't read all those threads, but MDAC 2.6 & up doesn't include parts of earlier MDACs (I forget exactly what), so they may need to install 2.5 as well.
