    Resolved [RESOLVED] need downloading advice

    hello,

    i need to download some stuff which may amount to 100 MB in size. and i cannot keep my pc on the entire day. so is there any good downloader available using which i can download the stuff in pieces, ie if i switch off the net connection and on my pc, i can start download from the point i paused it.

    could you please suggest something for this purpose?

    thank you.

    I used to use Download Accelator Plus, it was allright. I use GetRight now. IMO, its one of the best out there for resuming downloads.

    But...where will you be downloading it from? Some download places wont let you use a download manager. And some servers don't support resume downloading.

    Free Download Manger. It integrates seamlessly with Internet Explorer, you just click on the download link and instead of IE's download box, FDM kicks in. Unfortunately it doesn't integrate so well with Firefox, but you can drag a link into it's little drop box. I recommend it.

    [edit] I have since found an option to turn on support for Firefox! [/edit]

    @TomGibbons
    GetRight also intergrates well with FF and IE.

    I don't think Opera supports resuming downloads does it? As its just a web browser not a download manager :\.

    thanks for your responses.

    1 - i need to download VB SP pack from MSDN. so do it allow ppl to pause transfers at one point?

    2 - is getright and freedownloadmanager safe to use? i used falshget few years back and ended up in injecting adwares and spywares on my PC.

    thank all again.

    I don't know about GetRight as it's been a few years since I used it, but Free Download Manager is prefectly safe to use.

    For anyone else who comes across this thread; I've also noticed that GetRight isn't free. Free Download Manager, as suggested by the name, is free.

    I just noticed an option in Free Download Manager which adds support for Firefox! Everyone should now use this download manager!

    Question: can it do it properly? I know firefox doesnt like it when you start a download and disconnect your internet connection and come back like an hour later, the download wont start up again (you will have to start it from the begining).
