VB.NET 2005 Slow
Hi
I've been looking into .NET vb as that seems to be the way to go for vb apps and stuff, so i downloaded the free version and ran it on two computers and its slow!! i mean it takes what seems for ever to open the tool box (buttons, textbox's etc etc), surly this cannot be right here are my specs:
Laptop:
2.8Ghz P4
512mb Ram
40Gig HDD
DVD Burner
and now for my pc
3.8Ghz P4
1Gig Ram
ATI X800XT
DVD Burner
2x 80Gig HDDS
Now in my book i have more than enough to run VB.NET 2005 at a nice speed so why the hell is it slow??
Any help or comments welcome
Thanks

Re: VB.NET 2005 Slow
It's runs very fast on both of my computers and neither of them are anywhere near your computer's specifications.
I'd suggest checking your computer for spyware, viruses, and the usual defrag. After that, make sure you have the latest Windows updates and maybe optimize it (i.e., remove slow stuff like Norton from starting up).

Re: VB.NET 2005 Slow
I just installed it on my laptop a few days ago...
I noticed the "first" time the toolbox opened that the status bar at the bottom said something about it "building the toolbox list" - that took a moment or two...
But now it appears to run as fast as VS 2003 did (although I only used VS 2003 for about a month or so prior to this).

Re: VB.NET 2005 Slow
The .NET IDEs are way more resource intensive then its VS 6 predessor. Dont expect it to be as fast as VS 6. There are issues that could be slowing it down like already posted.

Re: VB.NET 2005 Slow
It was slow as hell on mine too until I reinstalled Windows and then it was nice and quick. I'd say mine (I have 3 of the Express Edition IDE's installed) is now as quick as VS 6.
Your computers probably need defragmenting. Also, if you haven't already gone through and tweaked all your Windows settings and turned off services as needed (something you should always do when installing) then it will all be slow anyway.

Services don't really slow you down that much. Check out http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm for a guide on disabling services, however; any performance gained will be very small.

It's noticable here, and btw don't disable Terminal Services as that will screw with VS.

Re: VB.NET 2005 Slow
Hi
Thanks for the repliys, There is not one service running that i don't need i know what i can and can not turn off in xp as i spent the first three months making crash while it was still in beta's right through to the final shop release's, so i know that this is really tweaked, defrag tryed, malware spyware virus and trojans none!. It seems not only is windows more processor and memory hungry as each upgrade of the os (play with vista see what i mean) but its apps are too . Ive tryed every trick in the book that i know and its still slow as hell.
Im still open to suggestions oh BTW ive done a clean re-install of xp still no diffrence.
Thanks
