MS programs take very long to open
When I open Word, Excell or Outlook Express for the first time after I have switched on my PC, it takes about 20 seconds for these programs to open. I reinstalled Win XP and MS Office after formatting the hard disk, and then everything was OK again. However, after a few days the problem was back. I edited the MSCONFIG startup, but I only gained about 2 seconds. Is there any way I can get these programs to open faster?

What version of Office are you running? It may be because they can run their own virus scan before opening files. Have you done an Office Update?

I use Office XP. I didn't know these programs can run their own virus scans - but why do they become slow only after a couple of days?

Is it when your opening a document or file or just opening a blank new document/file?

Re: MS programs take very long to open
No, only when I open the main program for the first time - before the splash screen appears.

Re: MS programs take very long to open
Usually what its doing on the first run is configuring itself and setting up stuff that goes on behind the scenes. After a while it should stabilize to a normal interval. It will also depend on the number of converters, filters, and options, etc. that you selected when you installed it.
