[RESOLVED] How Bout a Regular Chatroom to Add
Theres nothing better than a direct chatroom. especialy if it recorded the logs(the discussions you found most usefull would be kept) for people to reference from. that way the most common asked questions would have very indepth answers .
EXAMPLE: A newbie like me loggs in,
------------VB Discussion 12/22/05--------------
TomJones101: so my problem is I need to make a working database
SuperModerator: Well, what kind of database you must specify
also specify the type of program your using.
Tomjones101: Well I need to do this and this but I dont know how
to even create one , I am very new to this.Using VB6.0
SuperModerator: Well for starters you must specify what you are
trying to do if you want to create a simple one id recommend
clicking on MS Access (this is located under add ins on the menu
then you click on file , then pick new Ms access , then type pick 7.0
from there you may create tables and even add info to your DB)
TomJones101: WoW thanks alot Supermodman that was very helpful
SuperModerator: NP, thats what were here for also here are some
links to a good learning site.........

Re: How Bout a Regular Chatroom to Add
A chat room was suggested several years ago and I don't remember why but it didn't work out. In any case it is too large of effort to implement.

And then it'll get clogged by people trying to help those who need it, and the info wouldn't be available for some one else to find it and ..... it would just be a big pain.

I agree. Searching could get nightmarish to say nothing of MemberA chatting with MemberB about his girlfriend.

Re: [RESOLVED] How Bout a Regular Chatroom to Add
Having a built in chatroom in VBforums would sure beat using MSN , cause people are tired of adding members to their buddy list just to help them out with one problem.

We are here for programming questions, not to ease the burden of Buddy List Management.
If someone has a problem, post it.

I'm referring to get help, Live, as well as using the forums. A chatroom built into the forum as a separate section. It would be a nice feature to have. After all, we are here to help people out with their programming and computer related problems.

Re: [RESOLVED] How Bout a Regular Chatroom to Add
This is a forum. It is both Pros and Cons with both Forum and a live Chat channel. With a chat, you might get a response quicker, and you can dick back and forth many times in a short time period, while with a forum, it might take a bit longer time, but the answer is usualy clearer and it is also easier to post code (ie. syntax highlighted code), but the biggest reason why a forum is prefered is that it is possible to search for the answer. Most of the time the question is already answered, hence no need to make a new thread. But with a live chat chanel it is harder to do that search, and the answer is boud to be cluttered up with lots of CC humour in between. Not a good solution at all. Even Microsoft has understood now in the end that Forums is the future, and they are making huge effort to move people away from their old mailing lists onto forums. Not an easy task, but at least they have hired enough people to keep it going. So I think Marty had the final word here. And I have to fully agree with him. If you still think he (included me and most others here) is completly wrong, then why not start your own IRC chanel. It has been tried several times before here, and not one single time it has been sucsessfull. Just do a search in CC and see for your self. Well that was my last 2cents in my pocket this year. Christmas presents and beer took the rest. Over and out sionara.
PS: Rattles_cage and Quizton *looking at your joining date*, friends? Same computer class? Or maybe a bit too young? Just a Q..

Re: [RESOLVED] How Bout a Regular Chatroom to Add
A chatroom should not have a search feature. It should only be used for Live help only. And it can easily be moderated, like how it was with the MSN chatroom. If some mischief takes place, they can be kicked out of the chatroom for a period of time, like 24 hours. And continued mischief can lead to banning. If the mod/administrator is absent, the chatroom can be closed till one of them get back. Both have pros and cons, but having both of them together can really improve this forum, and get the help the members deserve.

I would be the last one (well maybe not) to cut off a lively discussion, but I have to reiterate that it's not going to happen.
