[RESOLVED] Outlook Contacts Question
Does anyone know why an Outlook Contacts folder would apparently contain an entry for everyone that I ever replied to (or perhaps sent an email to)?

Re: Outlook Contacts Question
Possibly for making new emails? It can autofill the address if you start typing it.

Re: Outlook Contacts Question
I understand about autofill, but what I'm really asking is how I can stop Contacts entries from being created automatically. I assume there's a setting someplace but I can't find it.

Re: Outlook Contacts Question
Hotmail has an option to add new contacts from your sent mail. I have mine set to manual, so it prompts me. It doesn't though, if I use Outlook.

Re: Outlook Contacts Question
Not sure if you have an Add-In but if you do then you need to unload it. Here are a couple that do what your describing.

Re: Outlook Contacts Question
There is no appearent option for adding a receipient to the Contacts for 2003 and by the availability of Add-Ins for this action it is doubtful that its a basic option. Perhaps you have VBA code or a Rule that does this and forgot? Or if it is in 2002 it may be in the Tools > Options > Email Options > On Replies and forwards > ?

Re: Outlook Contacts Question
No, unfortunately those were some of the first things I checked. The PC with the problem is my wife's and she never adds contacts manually and many of the Contacts are people/email addresses that she doesn't even know so I don't know what is going on. I vaguely remember that at one time there was an option someplace that had to do with automatically adding to Contacts but I sure can't find it. Thanks for your help and if I can find out what the problem is I'll let you know.

Re: Outlook Contacts Question
Ok, I looked all through 2003 but found nothing. I no longer have 2002 installed anywhere so I cant give a precise location and/or if it exists. I even searched MSDN.

Re: Outlook Contacts Question
I'm not crazy after all.
Please note that... automatic contact adding feature was available with Microsoft Outlook 2000 in the IMO mode (Internet Mail), but further Microsoft Outlook versions don't have it. To check if this option is available with your version of Outlook, select the Options item in the Tools menu, switch to the tab Preferences and click the Email Options button. If you are using Microsoft Outlook 2000 you will see the option "Automatically put people I reply to in" at the bottom of the dialogue.
I think what happened was that my wife once had Outook 2000 and the strange contacts were added at that time.

Re: [RESOLVED] Outlook Contacts Question
I just found this:
In Outlook, there isn't an option to have contact information automatically added to Contacts or Address Book when you reply to them.
and this:
Open or preview the e-mail message that contains the name you want to add to your contact list.
Right-click the name of the sender you want to make into a contact, and then click Add to Contacts on the shortcut menu.

Re: [RESOLVED] Outlook Contacts Question
Good find Martin. I knew if there were Add-Ins for this type of action that it wasnt a basic feature. Maybe like you said, the upgrade from 2000 retained this action.
