Resolved [RESOLVED] Uninstalling SP6 from Dev Machine

    Hey guys,
I was not informed at work until AFTER I installed Visual Studio SP6 on my dev machine that there are older VB apps running at the production server level that may have issues if I install my vb app with SP6 installed.

Now, how in the world can I remove SP6 from my dev machine and start over? Please don't tell me I have to reformat c.

I already have uninstalled and reinstalled VS6 and then when I goto "help about", VB still says I have SP6 installed.

    thanks

Before panic sets in why don't you recompile those those production apps and run them on a test machine to determine if, in fact, they would have issues.

I work in a VERY large corp. and that is not possible. The other developers here as well are 100% sure that my vb app would destroy their production code because they know for a fact that their apps were compiled previous to sp6.

The reason behind the suggestion is that I have production apps compiled under both services packs (5 & 6) running on the same machine and have encountered no difficulties. I guess it would depend on the controls used in the applications and how the service packs affected them.

This might be a good sign. I completely uninstalled VS6 again. Shut off my machine. Then rebooted and reinstalled. Rebooted again and when I open VB6 low and behold, no SP6 when I look at the Help About.

This is very good to know, because, quite frankly, I didn't know you could uninstall a service pack.

So, now are you just going to reinstall SP5?

No I can not. The other apps on the production server were originally written for Win98 and are now running in a Citrix environment! Can u believe that?

Now here is another interesting problem I am having. I have succesfully added back the reference to the DataEnvironment and DataReport designers however when I try and either create a DataReport or open an existing DataReport I get an error that I have attached below.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

No problem. It is funny how much information there is to be had from this one site alone. Meaning vbforums than most anywhere else. I have been around here for years and it never ceases to amaze me.

    jesus4u,

I don't understand something... You state that you work in a very big company...Yet they do not have a test system??? Only a production system???

How is production release handled? just drop a new app in the production environment and see if it works?

I never said I don't have a test environment it it just that the network admin. will not even take a chance on hosing a stable environment EVEN if it passes on the test environment.

I still don't understand... The test environment is supposed to duplicate the production environment, so that if the test area did not get hosed that the production environment had no chance of getting hosed.

That is the whole purpose of the test environment.
