Resolved [RESOLVED] Program to help write math equations (symbols, etc)

Are there any free programs available that would help me write math equations. Perferably it would have all the symbols and would automatically format things the porper way (IE - Putting numerator over the denominator instead of using a /. Making x^2 into x2. Etc.).

    Any reccomendations?

Depends what you mean. MS Equation editor will let you construct such things, for example. Or did you mean something standalone?

You will probably get access to MathLab in college, which can also solve equations.

For actually writing equations, and solving them, there's MatLab, Mathematica and Maple as prime contenders.

Strange how they all begin with M.

But they're very much not free unless your institution has kindly shelled out the wonga.

I wasn't thinking so much of an equation SOLVER as an equation EDITOR. What is MS equation editor? Does it come with Word?

I just need something that will make all the symbols and such and make it look nice and arrange all the fractions and what nots into their proper places. Like the TI-89 calculators do. Does that clear my question up?

I was hoping their might be an open source (and therefore free) program that could do this.

Yes it comes with Word. It's under the insert->object menu. Then select an equation object.
