While it's the courteous thing to do, "signing" a rep here is optional. I'll look into the negative you received.

No reason to weep , if you expect someone to add a positive rep to yours then expect for some negative too.

think of a Piano, White keys represent Positive rep and Black represents Negative ones. But remember that both produces good sound.

I like this. We should make this a part of the rep explanation thread.

There is a link to the post on which a rep (positive or negative) was given. You can at least find out what thread it was, and probably, through deductive reasoning, figure out who.

Man, I don't exactly know what to say but it sounds like the most rediculous thing I've heard about the rep system. Sorry.

actually, the quote is: Life is like a Piano. White keys represent Happiness and Black keys represent Sadness. But as you sail through in your life, remember that Black keys make good sound too.

so i just used it in some way.

    BTW, they also say:

Life is like a piano. What you get out of it depends on how you play it.

    Re: Getting a bad reputation

Because there were a number of 'retalitory ratings' early on with the rep system, I decided that displaying names caused more trouble than not displaying names.

As to deductive determinations based on who posts in a thread, I'd be cautious with that. This forum, like the others I oversee, has a huge number of lurkers that would rate, but not post (people like myself in many cases). I'd guess that the number of lurkers is well over 90%.

    Re: Getting a bad reputation

I heard back from the person who gave you the negative and they confirmed that they meant it to be negative. I only reverse or remove a negative rating when it is the result of a mistake or if there is clear justification for reversing it. Neither of those are true in this case so I'm sorry but I'm going to let it stand. I wouldn't worry about it though. You've started to help people in the C++ forum just a couple of weeks ago and you already received a positive rep and I'm sure you will receive more.
