Software Support/Development
Hello folks
I'm sure that many of you are familiar with my work on the forums, however many of you are not aware that I am currently looking for a full-time job away from the forums.
I am looking for employment preferably within the UK, and more specifically the Bristol area if possible.
Ideally I would like to be an Application Support specialist within a support team.
I have been a software developer for seven years, spending a percentage of my time throughout supporting both the software that I have developed, and software which had been developed externally; as part of this role I also performed general helpdesk duties. I have also spent a few years on VBForums, effectively performing lots of "remote support".
I have enjoyed this work, and would now like to make it the main focus of my role.
If you know of any jobs which you think may be appropriate, please let me know via PM.
If you are looking to fill a role and want any more details from me, I am happy to provide them.
Thanks,
Si

Re: Software Support/Development
There are several large, popular, websites in the US that help with job searches. I've never looked into them but they may cover the UK and/or there may be the equivalent for you guys across the pond.

Yes, look for the ones that specialize in the computer industry. I posted mine on dice.com the other day and I got a call within the first 6 hours and a dozen emails and 4 calls within a total of 12 hours for actual job offers. I just wanted to see what my options were and they look great. One job offered me $50 an hour. I was asking for $60.

There's quite a few I look at, all of varying quality. I don't have any real favourites tho, and neither does anybody that I've asked.
Apart from regional ones, the main one I tend to look at is theitjobboard.com

Re: Software Support/Development
Si,
Thanks for your advice (Re: File not found error in linker when compiling VB6 exe). I more than sympathize with the 'looking for a job'. I have worked in programming/IT and UNIX for 15 years and since my last contract ran out, have been looking unsuccessfully in my area the last four months.
There is a lot of opportunity in the U.S. if you're willing to relocate. I regularly get contact from companies in the Chicago area, but it's tough to leave all and move so far! We hope the evils of Bush outsourcing will one day end before we all end up at McDonalds, but the field is slowly getting better.
As we say, there's always truck driving !
