Slowdown in Express Editions

Has anyone else noticed that the express editions (or I suppose any 2005 edition) run much slower than the 2003 editions did? I can hardly run the VBE and C#E on my PC. I don't have a powerhouse, but I should hope any Pentium 4 could handle the load of the IDE - especially when 2003 ran just fine.

i'm running the vb2k5 express on a 1.1ghz system it seems to run fairly fine given the slowness of the computer

the IDE seems a little weird but then again i'm used to the 2003 IDE right now

i'm actually thinking of somehow trying to get the full VS 2005 though the express one feels somewhat limited lol

Yeah, same here. I can't stand not being able to mix languages in a solution, that's half of how cool the IDE is for me Plus the bloody icon editor, nifty templates, etc. I'm probably gonna have to convince my boss that my programming tasks (both of them i've done so far hah!) require VS 2005 pro.

I didn't notice any slowdown. They are the same in performance I think.

On the contrary I found the '05 Express Editions faster than VS 03. The sluggishness of VS 03 on my setup put me off learning .NET for a long time. I'm only seriously getting into it now I can use a half-quick IDE.

installing the vs 2003 IDE is super slow because the IDE allows 4 (or more) languages

the vb.net 2005 express IDE only allows the vb language and that's it, which IMO the 2003 full IDE is better than the 2005 vb express IDE

it's the VS2005 IDE i want (preferrably Pro edition, but standard would be fine) is what i'm tryin to get

It's not installing the IDE, it's just running it - it is slow as a ***** compared to '05 EE. With any other applications open at the same time, it is completely unusable.

Actually they really reduced the loads for running the VS 2005, it is really an improvement of the languages, and of course the performance.

2005 runs much faster than 2003 for me.

I haven't loaded it yet, but got turned off with 2K3's load speeds. It's about 10 seconds on my p4 laptop. Maybe because it's on the G: partition and the system is on c: and d:? I don't have the same problem with VB6. Fx seems just as slow, though.

I currently use vs2002 and now i installed bs2005 express edition. I notice in 2005 there is an option to make my application xp look alike. my question is this feature found also in 2003? Im asking this my boss plannig update our software 2003.
