Need To Change DirectX Version In Registry
Apparently, my music software Cakewalk Plasma 2003, has a software glitch in the installation file. In the installation file, it installs DirectX 8.1 before it tries to install the Cakewalk program itself. The problem is that if you have a later version of DirectX that's above DirectX 8.1, it's gonna keep telling you that it needs to install DirectX 8.1, then installs it and exits out. I obtained the solution awhile back from the Cakewalk technical support itself. You have to go into the registry into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Microsoft/DirectX/ and the key Version is what you have to change. I lost the version number of DirectX I had to change it to, which bypasses the DX installation completely and jumps straight into installing Cakewalk Plasma. The version number I have now is 4.09.00.904, with the latest version of DX9 installed. Sorta looks like the date 4/09/00, but not sure. Anyways, what version number do people have for those who have just DirectX 8.1? Thanks in advance, and I hope I was specific and clear enough on my problem.
....And yes I already emailed Cakewalk again, only still have not received any replies.

Yeah, you got DX9 as well. I'm mainly hoping people with old computers that only have it up to DirectX 8.1 would display their version number. That version would be the solution to my problem and I can finally get Cakewalk Plasma in my comp.

Perhaps this will help as changing your registry is probably not a good idea:
