new messages in vbforums.com
ever heard about popnot? popnot.sourceforge.net
whynot somebody, specially a mod, make a similar app for vbforums so that instead of mailing the new threads, a more "real-time" info about new posts can be given to the users.

Re: new messages in vbforums.com
Well, if you use Firefox and Gmail there is already something like this for you... Gmail Notifier.
When its setup it will notfiy of you an email, and usually for me these are Vbforums.com replies.
Fun
Good idea still

Re: new messages in vbforums.com
well, what i want is to make a prog which will stay in the system tray and check the forums once in a while. once there is a new post in the forums (selectable by user for all new posts, subscribed posts or certain forums), the prog will give a msn style notification of new message.

Re: new messages in vbforums.com
You can subscribe to the forums that interest you and you can get the email notifications. Then all you need to do is query your ISP.
I dont think trying to automate anything on the forums is a good idea as it could interfere with the operations of the site and I think members have had enough of "connection issues" already.

Re: new messages in vbforums.com
well techgnome, you hit the nail, not on the head alright but you did hit the nail.
robdog. thanx for the warning, i may have to open the website and check all the tables to see if any new posts were made, but that would be very unrealistic wont it?

Re: new messages in vbforums.com

That's what subscribing to threads is for. Set your settings to default subscribe to threads (when you post), and whenever you visit the site go to your User CP page and you will see all your updated threads.
