VS.NET 2005! November Launch
As many of you know next month is going to be the launch of VS 2005.
I was looking for advice on their launch events.
What are these events like?
Would it be beneficial for me? (Having hardly any .Net knowledge? But definetly looking into a change from VB6)
What are your experiences with these events?

Re: VS.NET 2005! November Launch
Hi,
been to teh launch of the VS.2003 and going to the british tour launch of VS.2005.
There a bit tongue in cheek but very informative indeed and you get a good idea of whats all the hype about and the where-with-all on th enew versioning. if you pick the right seminar for you, you come away with a lot of inf. If you pick the wrong one, youll probably come awy with the wrong idea as they are very focused on the subject matter indeed.
hope this helps

I heard that they are giving a way a copy of SQL Server AND Visual Net to attendees. Just found out that it is close to where I live, so I think I'll be going on Nov. 10th.

Since I just moved to the bay area, I'm going to the one in San Francisco on the 7th. Supposedly you get VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005 for free, the registration is free.. why not go. The "Developer track" is filled up, but I got registered on the "Database track" just a few days ago.

Nope, you have to choose which track your attending so they have enough seats. It was on the rgistration page as a treeview layout. Check the top checkbox to attend and then below that is a general description of the event. Below that is the first child node - vb developer track with times and descriptions. Then there is the second child node that is the DB track with times and descriptions. You cant go to both as they are parallel tracks, day/time.
This is why I was asking about boing to two different launches.

I was just about to post about this. Everyone who attends will get a NFR copy of VS.NET 2005 Pro and SQL Server 2005. I'll be going to one in NYC Nov 22. When I went to the Office 2003 launch I got a free copy of Office 2003 Pro.
I signed up for the developer track. If anyone in NYC is going, maybe we can hang that day.

You're right. Thanks.
I guess they were punishing FX users. I didn't see anywhere to check the track I wanted to attend, and didn't notice the absence in the invite I printed out.
I now have a new ticket. There was NO treeview in FX.
I guess that's just another site to use IE on. (I was thinking that, but figured "what could go wrong...") I guess I know now.

For me, the event is just down the street from where I used to work. If I was still working I could get paid for the day. I havent driven my car but a few times since quitting. Just got my second tank of gas since Sept. 9

I don't drive much either - only on weekends and during the week it's a subway. Event will be (for me) like 5 minutes walking from where I work (3-4 short city blocks away). And as per "convert" - don't know about that - MS din't convince me yet since its first beta release but I do develop in .net (pretty heavy some times) for about 4 years now but not impressed what so ever. VB6 is still the language of choice! Let's see what 2005 has to offer. I do have beta but it's still not close to be as fun as VB6...

You should have printer out your ticket and just showed up at the launch. Maybe they would have made an exception and let you in.
Also, for the 202 .NET launch I couldnt go but i had my reservation. I emailed MS and asked if there was anyway that I could still get the software and they emailed back asking for my mailing address and mailed it to me.

I'm going the 10th. They used to have shuttle buses to events, but I don't think they will for this. Not enough tourists. Won't be that many there, I guess.
Not driving down there. Might take 2 hours each way!
